Kolkata political protests intensify as Congress plans march and BJP stages Tiranga Yatra
The West Bengal Pradesh Congress announced a march to Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters, on August 5. Led by state Congress President Subhankar Sarkar, the procession will start from Calcutta University and aim to demand improved law and order, withdrawal of alleged false cases against opposition workers, and a neutral administration response to political violence.
Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a "Tiranga Yatra" in Kolkata on July 27. The rally, attended by West Bengal Commerce & Industries Minister Tapas Roy, was staged to protest alleged attacks on journalists and police during a student demonstration over a purported NEET paper leak. BJP activists also burned flags of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Both events reflect rising political tensions in West Bengal.
