Kolkata SSKM Hospital: Woman dies, two injured after tree falls

A woman died and two others were injured after a tree branch fell on them at the SSKM Hospital premises in Kolkata on Monday. The incident occurred near the urology department during a period of intermittent rain and strong winds caused by a low-pressure area in south Bengal.

The deceased has been identified as Rahida Bibi (also referred to as Rahima Bibi), 46, who had traveled from Nalhati in the Birbhum district to care for a relative admitted to the hospital. She was sitting on a concrete bench outside the urology department when the branch fell.

Two other individuals, Zillar Rahman, 68, and Shish Mohammad Sheikh, 76, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the hospital’s trauma care unit. Relatives of patients at the facility expressed concerns regarding hospital administration, suggesting that the old trees on the premises should have been inspected, particularly given the unstable soil conditions caused by continuous rainfall.
