Kolkata STF investigates mobile phone seizure in Aftab Ansari's prison cell

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police has launched an investigation into the recovery of mobile phones and internet devices from the prison cell of Aftab Ansari. Ansari, the alleged mastermind behind an attack on a US center and former operator of the banned terrorist organization Asif Raza Commando, is currently serving a life sentence at the Presidency Central Correctional Home.

During a recent raid by the Detective Department, authorities seized three mobile phones with active internet connections, two routers, a Wi-Fi device, two card readers, a pen drive, and earphones from Ansari’s cell. The investigation follows reports that Ansari was using a mobile phone to conduct multiple calls throughout the day.

The discovery has raised significant concerns regarding prison security and the potential smuggling of electronic devices and narcotics into correctional facilities. Similar smartphone seizures have also been reported in the cells of other high-profile inmates, including those accused in the Manish Shukla murder case.
