Kolkata to host 19th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in January 2027

The 19th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is scheduled to take place in Kolkata, West Bengal, from January 7 to 9, 2027. Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with the West Bengal government, the three-day event aims to strengthen ties with the global Indian diaspora and recognize their contributions to India and the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the convention, while President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the valedictory session and confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards. The event will feature a dedicated ‘Youth PBD’ segment designed to engage young diaspora leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

The convention commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915. Since 2015, the PBD has been held as a biennial flagship event, with theme-based conferences occurring in the intervening years to facilitate networking and knowledge exchange among overseas Indians.
