Kollam Port to receive ₹7.24 crore for berth and wharf development

The Indian Union government has sanctioned ₹7.24 crore in financial assistance for the development of a multi-purpose berth and wharf at Kollam Port in Kerala. The project, funded in part through the Sagarmala Programme by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, has a total estimated cost of ₹15.15 crore.

The planned infrastructure includes a wharf measuring 101 metres in length and 21 metres in width, along with various ancillary facilities. The Kerala government has granted in-principle approval to develop the port using a public-private partnership (PPP) model, and a detailed project report is currently being prepared to finalize the implementation strategy.

This development is intended to complement the expansion of the Vizhinjam International Seaport by strengthening Kerala's regional maritime network. The project aims to enhance maritime connectivity and support activities including logistics, warehousing, tourism, and allied maritime operations, which are expected to generate new employment opportunities and attract private investment.
