Kollum introduces blue zone parking regulations

The municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân is implementing a ‘blue zone’ parking regulation in the center of Kollum to ensure parking availability for visitors. The zone covers parts of the Eyso de Wendtstraat and the Voorstraat, specifically from Putstraat to the intersection with Mr. Andreaestraat.

Under the new rules, which apply between 08:00 and 18:00, visitors must use a parking disc and are limited to a maximum stay of two hours. This measure aims to prevent long-term occupation of spaces by residents and increase turnover for local businesses. While signs have been placed, the regulation is not yet officially in effect because the required blue road markings have not been applied due to unforeseen circumstances. The municipality will announce the official start date and enforcement schedule once the markings and supplementary time-limit signs are installed.

The decision follows a request from a local entrepreneurs' association and was part of the ‘Visie Voorstraat’ plan. Although objections were raised, a committee advised maintaining the decision. Residents are advised to use alternative parking areas such as Mr. Andreaestraat, Waling Dykstrastrjitte, or Maartensplein during regulated hours.
