Kombucha Products Ltd sales team robbed by armed men in uniforms

Armed men impersonating government and military officials robbed a sales team from Kombucha Products Ltd of Shs5.51 million and several valuables on Thursday. The incident occurred along the Iganga-Kaliro road as the team was returning to their base after conducting sales in Kaliro, Bulumba, and Buyuge.

The attackers used a white Toyota Wish to intercept the company’s Toyota Hiace. According to police reports, two suspects wore Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) reflector jackets and stopped the vehicle under the pretext of checking driving permits and trading licenses. Three other men, dressed in uniforms resembling the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), surrounded the vehicle and declared the occupants under arrest.

The victims, identified as driver Waiswa Damulira and salesman Twinamasiko Kenneth, were reportedly forced out of their vehicle and bundled into the suspects' car. They were driven toward Mayuge District, where they were robbed of the cash, mobile phones, an ATM card, and a national identity card before being abandoned. Police have recovered the abandoned company vehicle for forensic examination and are investigating the re-emergence of highway robberies using this specific modus operandi.
