Komeri closes nine Kumamoto stores after July quake and opens new Ibaraki outlet

Retail chain Komeri halted operations at nine locations in Kumamoto Prefecture following the magnitude‑6.0 earthquake on July 28, citing safety concerns. The affected stores include Komeri Hard & Green sites in Nishihara, Kosa, Toiyo, Uto, and other towns across the prefecture.

Separately, Komeri opened the relocated and expanded Hard & Green Dejima store in Kasumigaura, Ibaraki Prefecture on July 25. The new facility adds to the chain’s nationwide total of 1,234 stores and introduces additional DIY, agricultural, and home‑renovation services.

Both actions reflect Komeri’s response to regional demand and emergency conditions, highlighting the company’s extensive footprint in Japan’s home‑improvement market.
