KOMF demands urgent action after video shows assault on 12-year-old

The Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection (KOMF) has called for immediate institutional action following reports of a 12-year-old girl being physically assaulted by an 18-year-old in Mitrovica. The incident gained significant attention after video footage of the assault was filmed and shared publicly.

KOMF expressed deep concern regarding the public exposure of the violence, noting that the circulation of such footage increases the risk of stigmatization, re-traumatization, and privacy violations for the victim. The coalition emphasized that this should not be treated as an isolated incident but as a broader demonstration of violence.

In response, KOMF is urging local child protection mechanisms, including social work centers and psycho-social services, to activate immediately to provide protection and rehabilitation for the child. They have also called on law enforcement and justice institutions to take swift action against those involved in accordance with current legislation. Furthermore, the coalition highlighted the need for strengthened prevention programs, school-based education, and mental health support to address systemic gaps in the child protection system.
