Komló handball training hall faces heavy losses and structural defects

The handball training hall in Komló, Hungary, is facing significant financial losses and structural issues shortly after its completion. Built at a cost of approximately 1 billion forints, the facility suffered a three-year delay due to necessary ground reinforcement and issues with a gabion retaining wall.

Data from the National Sports Agency (NSÜ) reveals that since its handover in September 2025, the facility has generated only about 2.2 million forints in revenue, while annual operating costs are estimated to exceed 85 million forints. The hall's utilization remains extremely low; of the total hours used, the vast majority were for school physical education, with minimal time allocated to sports clubs or matches.

Technical problems have also emerged, including roof leaks, sinking parking lot paving, improper window sills, air in the floor heating, pipe cracks, and issues with showers and the sports floor. The contractor is currently performing repairs under warranty.
