Komló‑Dombóvár railway line resumes passenger service in Hungary

Three years after its closure, passenger trains on the Komló‑Dombóvár line began running again on Saturday. Transport and Investment Minister Vitézy Dávid announced the restart and highlighted a weekend of concerts and children’s programmes organised by MÁV to celebrate the "railway festival".

The reopening follows extensive track work: over 18 km of line were refurbished, with 6 500 concrete sleeper fixings carried out to ensure safety. New services operate on a two‑hour schedule, with faster B447 motor‑coach connections covering the 42‑minute journey. The timetable restores links to Budapest, Pécs, Kaposvár and Baja, and the 1 490‑forint Mecsek day ticket is re‑introduced for the region.

The event marks a shift from previous line dismantling plans to renewed investment in regional rail transport.
