Komló–Dombóvár rail service resumes after extensive upgrades

Intensive track renovation works on the Dombóvár–Komló railway line have been completed, enabling passenger trains to run again from August 1. The upgrades included drilling 6,500 concrete sleeper holes, regulating 18.4 km of track, rebuilding seven road crossings in Mindszentgodisa, Magyarszék, Mecsekpölöske, Mecsekjánosi and Komló, and installing about 750 tonnes of ballast.

Transport Minister Vitézy Dávid announced that trains will operate every two hours between Dombóvár and Komló, linking with the Budapest–Pécs InterCity network. The restored line will allow speeds of up to 60–80 km/h. The service, suspended in 2023 after a decision by former minister Lázár János, is presented as a key step in reviving Hungary’s regional rail infrastructure.
