Kommunistiska Partiet sees election gains in Sweden

The Communist Party (Kommunistiska Partiet) has seen an increase in voter support across several Swedish municipalities following the finalization of municipal election results. The party gained votes in ten out of the eighteen municipalities where it ran, including notable progress in the major cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö.

In Gothenburg, the party received 1,786 votes, representing 0.5 percent of the total. In Lysekil, the party secured 4.5 percent, though this resulted in the loss of one of its two mandates. The party also saw increased visibility in Borlänge, Kramfors, and Sundsvall, where it doubled its vote count compared to its 1991 results.

Party chairman Povel Johansson stated that the results represent the party’s best performance of the 2000s, attributing the success to an organized campaign involving square meetings, flyer distribution at workplaces, and election booths. The party received a total of over 5,000 votes across the 18 municipalities.
