Komnas Haji calls for fairer distribution of Hajj fund benefits
The National Hajj Commission (Komnas Haji) is urging that the revision of the Hajj Financial Management Law ensure a more equitable and sustainable distribution of fund benefits. Mustolih Siradj, Chairman of Komnas Haji, stated that the current mechanism managed by the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) needs to balance the interests of both pilgrims currently departing and the millions still on waiting lists.
Currently, there is a significant disparity in how benefits are allocated. Pilgrims departing in the current year receive an average subsidy of approximately Rp33 million to Rp35 million per person. In contrast, the roughly 5.7 million prospective pilgrims on the waiting list receive an average benefit of only about Rp500,000 per person per year.
The total benefit value managed by BPKH is projected to reach approximately Rp12 trillion in 2025, an increase from Rp11 trillion the previous year and Rp10 trillion in the period prior. Komnas Haji emphasizes that correcting this imbalance is essential to maintaining the long-term financial health and sustainability of Hajj fund management.
