Komodo dragons arrive at iZoo zoo in Shizuoka

Two 12-year-old Komodo dragons have arrived at the iZoo experiential zoo in Kawazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, from Indonesia. The pair includes a male estimated to be over 250 centimeters in length.

To prepare for their arrival, iZoo has spent ten years developing specialized enclosures that replicate the dragons' natural habitat, maintaining temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. The loan agreement with the Indonesian government is set for a five-year period. The zoo aims to utilize its history of successful rare species breeding to manage the dragons. Public viewing is scheduled to begin on October 31.

In connection with the arrival, a special art exhibition titled ‘Komodo Liminal’ is currently on display at the zoo. The ceramic sculpture, created by Seikei High School student Haruya Makiuichi, was selected for the 110th Nikakai Exhibition and features a design that combines clay textures with Lego blocks.
