Komoot launches redesigned Wear OS app with offline navigation

Komoot has released a completely redesigned version of its application for Google’s Wear OS, enabling users to navigate outdoor activities without a smartphone. The update is compatible with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch, Google Pixel Watch, and OnePlus Watch.

Key features include high-resolution, sports-specific offline maps that allow users to zoom and explore surroundings without an internet connection. The app provides turn-by-turn directions via visual cues and vibration signals. If a user deviates from a planned path, the software automatically recalculates the route to return to the original track.

Users can record activities, such as hiking, running, or cycling, directly on the smartwatch with customizable real-time statistics. To preserve battery life, the app utilizes a simplified map view when the display is in Always-on mode. Recorded data is cached on the device and automatically uploaded once a connection is re-established. Future updates are expected to include live location sharing and live tracking.
