Komotini: Turkish motorcyclists detained after displaying nationalist symbols

Seven Turkish motorcyclists caused significant tension in Komotini after riding through the city displaying Turkish flags and Ottoman-era emblems. During the procession, one rider was observed making the hand gesture associated with the 'Grey Wolves' nationalist movement.

Greek State Security police intercepted the group near the eastern entrance of the city. Following a three-hour investigation into their travel documents and vehicle details, authorities determined that all documentation was legal and no criminal offenses had been committed. The group, who identified themselves as members of a motorcycle club from Istanbul on a European tour, were released and escorted toward the Kipi border crossing to continue their journey toward Turkey.

The incident has drawn local criticism and is viewed as a reflection of heightened sensitivities regarding nationalist symbolism in the Thrace region.
