German firms use AI to preserve and transfer workplace knowledge
The competence centre WIRKsam in Hürth, Germany, is demonstrating how artificial intelligence (AI) can help companies capture and transmit experiential knowledge in production processes. Partner firms from the Rhine region—including FEG Textiltechnik in Aachen, Essedea in Wassenberg, and Heusch in Aachen—are testing AI‑based assistive systems that visualise process data, forecast yarn quality, analyse product‑quality drivers and suggest optimal machine settings. These tools make complex cause‑effect relationships understandable for operators, supporting daily decision‑making while keeping human expertise central.
The initiative targets challenges from demographic change and rising production demands, aiming to document tacit knowledge so it remains accessible to new employees. A concluding event will invite interested parties to learn about the solutions under the motto “WIRKsam den Wandel gestalten – KI für die Arbeit von morgen”.
