Konak Municipality Secures $272,000 EU and UN Grants for Women Empowerment

Konak Municipality in İzmir received a total of $272,000 in international grants funded by the European Union, UN Women and UNFPA for two gender‑equality projects. The first project, “From Participation to Power,” with a budget of $122,000, is led by the Social Climate Association and involves partner municipalities including İzmir, Çankaya and Muratpaşa. It aims to increase young women’s participation in civil and political life and to strengthen local capacity to combat gender‑based violence. The second project, “BRIDGES,” is supported by UNFPA and focuses on building resilient and inclusive gender‑equality systems.

In parallel, Konak signed a cooperation protocol with the Kordon Soroptimist Club to launch social, educational and cultural initiatives for women, girls and other vulnerable groups. Mayor Nilüfer Çınarlı Mutlu said, “İlçemizde fırsat eşitliğini güçlendireceğiz!” and pledged to expand projects that leave no one behind.
