Konami pushes Silent Hill f writers to read up to 200 books a year

At the CEDEC 2026 developer conference in Japan, Konami producer Motoi Okamoto revealed that the scenario team behind the 2025 horror title Silent Hill f was encouraged to read between 100 and 200 books each year. He said the practice was meant to give writers “a thorough understanding of the writer’s style and quirks” and to provide a broad “input” of ideas for the game’s narrative.

Okamoto also stressed that producers should read the majority of an author’s previous work before commissioning them, calling it a matter of basic respect and a way to assess strengths and weaknesses. The game’s story was written by Ryukishi07, known for the When They Cry visual‑novel series, and development was a joint effort by Konami and Taiwan’s NeoBards Entertainment.

Silent Hill f sold over a million copies within its first 24 hours, and the series’ next instal­ment, Silent Hill : Townfall, is slated for release later this year.
