Konan Technology to build AI-driven OSINT platform for defense

Konan Technology has commenced a 2.5 billion won project to develop an automated Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) collection and analysis service for the South Korean Ministry of National Defense. The project is part of the ‘AX-Sprint’ initiative led by the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).

The 17-month project aims to build an AI-driven platform capable of automatically collecting, processing, and translating public information regarding North Korea and international defense and security sectors. The system will integrate various processes, including optical character recognition (OCR), multilingual translation, data refinement, source reliability assessment, and event clustering.

To ensure reliability, the platform will utilize a ‘Human-in-the-Loop’ approach, where AI assists analysts by prioritizing information and identifying connections rather than replacing human judgment. The system will also incorporate specialized datasets, such as North Korean linguistic and military terminology dictionaries, to enhance accuracy and traceability in defense intelligence.
