Kongsberg completes acquisition of underwater acoustics specialist Sonatech

Kongsberg has finalized its acquisition of Sonatech, a California-based specialist in underwater acoustics. The move is intended to bolster Kongsberg’s growth strategy within the United States and strengthen its role as a technology provider for the US Navy.

Sonatech brings over 50 years of experience in undersea acoustics engineering and manufacturing. The integration of Sonatech’s expertise with Kongsberg’s existing portfolio—which includes acoustic sensors, autonomous systems, and the HUGIN family of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs)—aims to enhance maritime domain awareness and support missions such as mine countermeasures, harbor defense, and the protection of undersea infrastructure.
