Kongsberg expands defense production and air defense offerings

Kongsberg Gruppen is expanding its defense portfolio and production capabilities to meet rising European demand for air defense and maritime technology. Following its acquisition of a 90% stake in the American firm Zone 5 Technologies, the Norwegian company is negotiating with several European governments to relocate the production of missile interceptors to Europe. This move aims to provide more cost-effective solutions against mass drone and missile attacks while reducing reliance on United States supply chains.

At upcoming industry exhibitions, Kongsberg will showcase a diverse range of technologies, including the Seawolf modular unmanned surface vehicle (USV), the NASAMS air defense system, and the NOMADS short-range system. Their portfolio also features the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), Joint Strike Missile (JSM), and the HUGIN autonomous underwater vehicle.

Driven by increased military spending due to conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, Kongsberg reported 2025 revenues of approximately 3.3 billion USD. The company has set an ambitious target to increase annual revenues to 100 billion NOK by 2029 and plans to hire between 500 and 700 new employees annually to support this growth.
