Konrad Adam, Forgotten Co‑Founder of Germany’s AfD Party
Konrad Adam, born in 1942 in Wuppertal, was a co‑founder of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which launched in 2013. He stood beside Bernd Lucke at the party’s first large founding meeting, organized its venue, and served as one of three equal national spokespersons.
Adam’s career began in journalism; after studying history, philosophy and law he joined the Deutsche Presse‑Agentur, working in Kiel and Hamburg. He later spent two decades (1979‑2000) as a feuilleton editor at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, then became chief political correspondent for Die Welt in Berlin, writing a weekly column before retiring in March 2007.
