Konstantinos Makedos calls for resilient infrastructure financing

Konstantinos Makedos, President of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TMEEDE), has called for a fundamental shift in how critical infrastructure is designed, evaluated, and financed. In an interview, he emphasized that increasing pressures from climate change and water stress necessitate a move from simple resource management to the fortification of entire systems.

Makedos advocates for a new financing model that prioritizes not only new construction but also the upgrading, digitalization, and life extension of existing networks. He highlighted the expanded role of engineers in planning for environments of increased uncertainty and stressed the importance of continuous cooperation between the state, infrastructure managers, engineers, and the financial sector to ensure long-term security and reliability.
