Konstantinos Tasoulas calls for recognition of Pontic Greek genocide

Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas has called for the international recognition of the Pontic Greek genocide and urged Turkey to formally acknowledge the historical events. Speaking at the Panagia Soumela pilgrimage site on Mount Vermio during August 15 celebrations, Tasoulas emphasized the state's duty to ensure the reality of the genocide is known worldwide to prevent such ethnic cleansing in the modern era.

In separate statements during the same holiday period, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias addressed regional tensions, asserting that the Greek Armed Forces guarantee the nation's independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty. Dendias emphasized adherence to international law and the Law of the Sea, warning against authoritarian views that attempt to change established international norms.

Additionally, President Tasoulas expressed the state's gratitude to the firefighters, volunteers, and armed forces working to combat ongoing wildfires, noting the difficult conditions faced by those protecting lives and property.
