Konstantinos Tsoukalas, a prominent Greek sociologist, academic, and politician, has passed away at the age of 89. A member of the Academy of Athens since 2015, he was widely recognized as an influential thinker in the fields of social theory and political science.

Tsoukalas held numerous prestigious academic positions, including serving as a professor at the University of Paris and the University of Athens. He also served as the scientific director and president of the National Centre for Social Research (EKKE). His academic journey included advanced studies at the universities of Heidelberg, Munich, Paris, and Yale.

Beyond academia, Tsoukalas was active in Greek politics, having served as a Member of Parliament for SYRIZ. He also held various institutional roles, including leadership positions in the Association of Greek Sociologists and the Foundation of the Hellenic Culture. His extensive body of work focused on the Greek state, social classes, and the transformations of Greek society.
