Kontanten introduces ATM withdrawal fees in Sweden

The company Kontanten has introduced withdrawal fees for its approximately 450 ATMs in Sweden, marking a shift in a country where such fees are new. The company stated that the fees were implemented due to rising operational costs and a decrease in the number of cash withdrawals.

Fee structures vary based on the amount withdrawn: 15 SEK for 100–200 SEK, 20 SEK for 300–1,000 SEK, and 25 SEK for 1,100–2,000 SEK. Kontanten notes that the fee is displayed in the machine for approval before the transaction is completed.

In contrast, Bankomat AB, which is owned by major banks including Danske Bank, Handelsbanken, Nordea, SEB, and Swedbank, operates around 1,200 ATMs across 600 locations and does not charge withdrawal fees.
