Kontron begins U.S. production of defense computing platform in Huntsville
Kontron has launched the first U.S. production of its rugged VX307H computing platform at Nextek, a Kontron subsidiary located in Huntsville, Alabama. This move marks the beginning of a broader expansion of the company’s domestic VPX manufacturing operations, with plans to follow with the VX3060 and VX30101 products.
The VX307H is a 3U VPX platform utilizing Intel Xeon D-2700/2800 processors. It is designed for mission-critical military applications, including sensor fusion, command and control, autonomous operations, and tactical 5G edge computing.
By shifting from a build-to-order model to a build-to-stock model, Kontron aims to improve supply-chain resilience and shorten delivery times for U.S. defense customers. The Huntsville facility will manage the complete production chain, ranging from printed circuit board assembly to final assembly and testing.
