Konveyor introduces scrolling column tiling to KDE Plasma
The open-source project Konveyor has introduced a new extension for the KDE Plasma desktop environment that implements Niri-inspired scrolling column tiling. Unlike traditional tiling window managers that replace the existing compositor, Konveyor functions as a modular KWin effect. This allows users to maintain standard Plasma features such as panels, widgets, and notifications while utilizing a new window management logic.
In this layout, windows are arranged in a continuous horizontal row. When the row exceeds the screen width, users can scroll left or right to navigate. The system supports predefined column widths, including one-third, one-half, and two-thirds of the screen. Konveyor also offers a portrait mode for vertical monitors and allows users to stack multiple windows within a single column using a tabbed interface.
Additional features include support for multi-monitor setups with independent workspace stacks, gesture controls for touchpads and touchscreens, and a floating mode for windows that do not fit the tiling grid. The extension requires Plasma version 6.4 or newer to operate.
