Konya accounts for 10.9% of Turkey's potato production

Konya has emerged as a major hub for potato production in Turkey, accounting for approximately 10.9 percent of the nation's total output. According to 2024 data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Konya produced 753,717 tons of potatoes, ranking it third in the country behind a total national production of 6.9 million tons.

To increase efficiency and reduce reliance on foreign imports, local producers are shifting focus toward domestic seed development. Producer Hüseyin Güler, who transitioned from corn and sunflower to potatoes, noted that past reliance on problematic imported seeds negatively impacted soil quality. His operations currently maintain a raw material capacity of roughly 25,000 tons per year, with a specialized seed production capacity of between 6,000 and 7,000 tons.
