Konya advances new bus terminal and rail system projects

Konya is advancing major transportation infrastructure projects, including a new intercity bus terminal and an expanded rail network. Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay announced that the foundation for the new terminal is targeted to be laid in September 2026. The terminal will be located at the intersection of Ankara Road and Aksaray Road, designed to integrate directly with the city's rail systems via a pedestrian overpass.

The project aims to connect the terminal, the High-Speed Train (YHT) station, and the airport through a unified rail network. Simultaneously, work continues on the KONYARAY suburban line. The first 23-kilometer stage, running from Meram Station to the Kayacık Logistics Center, has largely completed its construction phase, with station building and electrification currently underway. Completion for this stage is planned for 2027.

To support the new rail lines, the municipality is coordinating with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Turkish State Railways (TCDD). Following a protocol with the Islamic Development Bank, the municipality will begin the procurement process for the first four train sets on August 17, with plans to acquire three additional sets later.
