Konya teacher in coma after unprovoked park assault

A physics teacher, Cumhur Öztürk, remains in a coma following an unprovoked physical assault in a park in the Selçuklu district of Konya. The incident occurred on August 28 while Öztürk, 49, was taking a walk on medical advice following a previous heart attack.

Witnesses reported that a man attacked Öztürk, leaving him with severe injuries including brain hemorrhaging, skull fractures, and broken teeth. Following an investigation, police apprehended the suspect, identified as Abdullah Erdal. Erdal claimed the attack was triggered by Öztürk allegedly looking at him and swearing, though the victim's family maintains they do not know the assailant.

Erdal has been arrested and sent to prison. Öztürk has undergone two major surgeries and continues to fight for his life in intensive care.
