Konya industrialists and Ministry of Trade discuss import solutions
The Konya Chamber of Industry (KSO) and the Ministry of Trade’s General Directorate of Imports held an information meeting to address the import processes and customs challenges faced by local industrialists. The meeting included high-level officials such as Mehmet Azgın, General Director of Imports, and Önder Duman, Deputy General Director.
During the session, participants discussed access to imported inputs, the impact of foreign trade processes on production costs, and strategies to protect domestic production. M. Zahid Çatlı, Vice President of KSO, highlighted that Konya is a vital industrial hub for Turkey, generating $3.5 billion in annual exports and $1.6 billion in imports. He emphasized that the sustainability of export strength depends heavily on the cost, duration, predictability, and legislation surrounding the import of raw materials and intermediate goods. The meeting served as a platform for industrialists to communicate their specific demands and difficulties directly to ministry officials to improve competitiveness.
