Konya launches tender for 16 new suburban train vehicles

Konya Metropolitan Municipality has launched an international competitive tender process to procure new rolling stock for the Konya Suburban Line. The project involves the acquisition of four train sets, totaling 16 vehicles, to enhance the capacity and service quality of the KONYARAY suburban line.

Financed by the Islamic Development Bank and managed through the Municipal Infrastructure Improvement and Resilience Project via İller Bankası, the procurement is part of a larger 23-kilometer suburban rail project. The initiative is being carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Turkish State Railways (TCDD).

The new train sets are required to be compatible with 25 kV AC electrification systems and TCDD railway infrastructure. Technical requirements include modern passenger information systems, security cameras, climate control, and advanced communication infrastructure. The tender aims for at least 60 percent local content to support the domestic industry. The scope of the contract includes manufacturing, testing, delivery, commissioning, and personnel training.
