Konya Metropolitan Municipality is advancing a 70 MW solar power plant (GES) project in coordination with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and İLBANK. The project, which began in April, represents a total investment of approximately 2.5 billion lira.
Upon completion, the municipality's total renewable energy capacity will reach 105 MW, positioning Konya as a leader among municipalities in Turkey for renewable energy investments. Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay noted that 38.5 MW of the capacity will be utilized by the KOSKİ General Directorate to reduce energy costs and promote sustainable resource management. Additional projects are currently in development that could eventually bring the municipality's total solar capacity to 150 MW.
