Konya murder investigation: Allegations of ritualistic death
An investigation into the suspicious death of İbrahim Ekici in Konya, Turkey, has intensified following allegations of a ritualistic murder involving a self-proclaimed spiritual leader. İbrahim Ekici, a 39-year-old electrical technician, was found dead in his home on March 31, 2024.
New witness testimony suggests that Ekici’s wife, Mine Ekici, may have watched her husband suffer until his death under the instructions of Hüseyin Sarıbaş. Sarıbaş, a municipal worker who allegedly claimed to be 170 years old and possessed spiritual powers, reportedly instructed Mine Ekici to wait until the morning to intervene. Neighbors reported hearing loud voices and sounds of vomiting during the early morning hours of the incident.
Prosecutors are investigating the case as a premeditated murder. Hüseyin Sarıbaş and Mine Ekici face charges that could lead to aggravated life imprisonment. While Sarıbaş was previously detained, he was released during the initial hearing, and the legal proceedings are ongoing. The family had reportedly become involved with Sarıbaş while seeking spiritual healing for their disabled daughter.
