Konya plant species Bilacunaria konyaensis identified

Retired Professor Ahmet Duran has identified a new endemic plant species, Bilacunaria konyaensis, commonly referred to as ‘Konya sarunotu’. The discovery was prompted by a nature photograph shared on social media by an individual in the Meram district of Konya, Turkey.

Following a two-year research period, Duran confirmed the plant belongs to the Apiaceae family. The species is noted for being extremely rare and is found exclusively in the Konya region. The findings have been officially published in the international botanical journal Phytotaxa.
