Konya private hospital faces criminal complaint over billing allegations

A criminal complaint has been filed with the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office following allegations of improper medical billing and patient detention at a private hospital in Konya.

The incident began on May 16 when 19-year-old Kerem Elitemiz sought emergency care for high fever and pain. It is alleged that the hospital recorded the case under a ‘yellow code’ instead of a ‘red code,’ which affected insurance coverage.

According to the patient's mother, Satı Yavuz, hospital officials informed her that because private insurance would not cover the costs, a payment of 30,000 TL was required before the patient could be discharged. After the payment was made, the patient reportedly waited for hours with an empty IV bag before being allowed to leave. The mother also alleged that certain services were double-billed. The patient later recovered after receiving treatment at a state hospital.
