Konya retiree crafts 50 detailed wooden ship models over 30 years

İsmet Kasap, a 74-year-old retired electrical technician living in the Seydişehir district of Konya, has dedicated the last 30 years to the craft of ship model making. His hobby began after seeing an advertisement in a newspaper following his retirement.

Starting with simple kits, Kasap eventually transitioned to creating his own components using wood such as plywood, linden, and walnut. He operates a workshop in the lower level of his home, where he crafts detailed models, primarily focusing on British warships. The production of a single intricate model can take up to two years. To date, he has completed 50 models, choosing to gift 25 of them and keep the remaining 25 on display in his home.
