Konya retirees decry inadequate pensions amid soaring living costs

In Konya, Turkey, retired citizens reported that their monthly pensions of roughly 23,000–23,552 Turkish lira are insufficient to meet basic expenses. They noted that rent alone can reach 15,000–25,000 lira, leaving little for food, medicine, and other necessities.

Retirees quoted statements such as, “The pension only feeds us; I haven’t taken a holiday in 90 years,” and one demonstrator displayed the last 30 lira in his pocket. The remarks underscore growing frustration with inflation and rising cost‑of‑living pressures that are affecting many pensioners across the country.
