Konya summer school provides vocational training for special needs students

Special needs students in Konya are participating in a summer school program organized by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality through the Special Young Vocational Training Courses (KOMEK). The program is being conducted across four institutions: Selçuklu Special Education Application School, Konevi Primary School for the Hearing Impaired, Karatay Special Education Vocational School, and Rebii Karatekin Middle School.

This year, 512 students are receiving instruction tailored to their individual development levels and learning needs. The curriculum includes a wide range of disciplines such as weaving, sewing, culinary arts, archery, painting, mathematics, agriculture, recycling, and sports. Additionally, workshops focus on sensory integration to help students develop gross and fine motor skills, as well as daily life skills.

Program coordinators noted that the initiative, which has been running various courses for special individuals since 2015, aims to help students use their summer holidays effectively while supporting their personal and physical development. Students with hearing impairments, autism, Down syndrome, and other physical or mental disabilities are among those participating.
