Turkish municipalities provide free LGS counseling for students
Municipalities in several Turkish cities have launched free guidance services to help middle‑school students choose high schools under the Liselere Geçiş Sistemi (LGS).
In Karşıyaka, the KARGEM centre offers appointments from 10:00 to 16:30, with counselors assisting students on criteria such as school capacity, performance and facilities. Mayor Yıldız Ünsal said the programme aims to give “students the chance to make informed choices for their future.”
Kayseri’s Büyükşehir Belediyesi runs daily counseling at Hunat Hatun Medresesi from 10:00 to 19:00 (16–27 July), where expert guidance teachers evaluate scores, interests and goals. Aile Akademisi representative Gülşah Bozdağlı emphasized that “now is the time to take the right step.”
Konyaaltı Belediyesi in Antalya provides counseling at the Gürsu Etüt Merkezi, open to all city residents and to students from elsewhere in the province. Teacher Yasemin Kamış noted that “our doors are open to every student.”
Bursa’s provincial education directorate created a network of 470 counseling commissions across 387 schools (face‑to‑face) and 46 online points, adding 29 extra local centres to broaden access.
All programmes are offered at no charge, aim to reduce confusion during the LGS preference period, and are staffed by qualified guidance teachers.
