Koops TNI Habema evacuates resident in Ugimba, Papua

Personnel from the TNI Habema Operations Command (Koops TNI Habema) evacuated a local resident in the Ugimba District of Intan Jaya, Central Papua, on Sunday, August 9, 2026. The individual was found during a patrol in an area far from settlements and required urgent assistance.

The evacuation was carried out between 12:25 and 12:48 WIT using two Bell helicopters and an escort of 11 personnel. The operation took place despite difficult geographical conditions and ongoing security concerns in the region.

According to Letkol Inf M. Wirya Arthadiguna, head of information for Koops TNI Habema, the security situation in Ugimba remains a priority due to the activities of the OPM Kodap VIII/Kemabu group led by Guspi Waker. This group has reportedly caused unrest and conducted attacks against security forces in the area.
