Kootenay Lake shoreline workshops launch across BC region

Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society, in partnership with the Kootenay Lake Partnership, is holding a series of five free workshops for shoreline owners and residents of the Kootenay Lake region. The sessions are scheduled for August and September 2026 in the communities of Kaslo, Harrop, Crawford Bay, Creston and Nelson.

The workshops are part of the Shoreline Homeowner Project, which aims to teach practical, accessible techniques for protecting and improving lake shorelines. They will cover the ecological role of shorelines and offer actionable steps for homeowners and recreational users. The programme also includes a mail‑out to more than 2,000 lakeside residents and the production of a short film highlighting Ktunaxa stewardship practices and local stories. All events are open to the public and require no prior experience.
