Koperasi Desa Merah Putih expands with new sites in Sumba Timur and Jakarta

The Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (KDMP) initiative is seeing developments across different regions in Indonesia. In Sumba Timur, East Nusa Tenggara, the construction of the KDMP in Wanggameti Village has drawn public attention due to its location on a hill in a savanna area, which some residents noted is far from settlements.

Village Head Elis Lulu Raja clarified that the site was chosen due to geographic constraints, as much of the area consists of hills and ravines bordering a national park. The village government stated the location was decided after coordinating with community leaders, including a local figure who donated the land. The site was selected for its proximity to a public road and is approximately 500 meters from residential areas.

In East Jakarta, the Kopdes Merah Putih in Cakung Timur, supported by Korem 051 Wijayakarta, has received positive community feedback. Residents and small business owners have reported that the cooperative offers commodities at significantly lower prices than traditional supermarkets, attracting steady crowds of shoppers.
