Kopi Bantjah transformation in Padang through downstream processing
Residents of Koto Baru in Padang are transforming Kopi Bantjah from a raw plantation commodity into various value-added products. Supported by PT Semen Padang through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, the initiative focuses on downstream processing to increase the economic value of the local coffee crop.
The program specifically empowers women and the younger generation. Currently, ten women from RW 5 and RW 6 in Koto Baru are actively involved in producing derivative goods. These products include coffee cookies, coffee beverages, aromatherapy candles, cascara tea made from dried coffee skins and pulp, coffee jam, and various types of cakes.
Milawati, a key driver of the product development, noted that the diversification began following specialized training facilitated by PT Semen Padang. While the initiative is in its early stages, marketing efforts are currently concentrated within the Padang area through participation in local MSME bazaars and exhibitions.
