KOPTASI urges investigation into East Kalimantan coal supply chain

The Indonesian Mining Governance Guard Coalition (KOPTASI) is urging the Attorney General's Office and the Forest Area Order Task Force (Satgas PKH) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the coal supply chain in East Kalimantan. This follows the discovery of illegal mining activities within the Tahura Bukit Soeharto conservation area involving PT Singlurus Pratama, which occupied 111.71 hectares of forest.

KOPTASI argues that authorities must investigate the entire chain from upstream mining to downstream logistics in Kuala Samboja, including permits, coal origins, jetty management, and loading activities. The coalition highlighted a significant discrepancy regarding CV Semoga Surya Sentosa (CV SSS). While official records showed a 2023 production of 7,558 metric tons, six verification reports (LHV) recorded shipments of over 30,680 metric tons through a jetty managed by PT Berkah Bara Sejahtera (PT BBS) in November 2023 alone—a difference of approximately 23,122 metric tons.

Furthermore, KOPTASI raised concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest involving Loeis Subowo Saminanto (LS). LS reportedly holds leadership positions in three strategic areas of the supply chain: Director of CV SSS (mining), Director of PT BBS (jetty facilities), and Chairman of the Kuala Samboja branch of the Indonesian Stevedoring Company Association (APBMI).
