Korçë hosts exhibition for 135th anniversary of Girls' School

An exhibition has been opened in Korçë to commemorate the 135th anniversary of the Girls' School, which was established on October 23, 1891. The event honors the historical contribution of Gjerasim and Sevasti Qiriaz to Albanian education and the emancipation of women.

Organized by the National Library of Albania in collaboration with the Municipality of Korçë and the Institute for Albanian and Protestant Studies, the exhibition features historical documents, photographs, and textbooks. It highlights the efforts of the Qiriaz sisters, Sevasti and Parashqevi, to provide education for Albanian girls in their native language during a period of limited opportunities.

Contributors to the exhibition include the Bank of Albania, which issued a commemorative coin featuring Sevasti Qiriaz, and the Korçë Library. The exhibition is held at the school's original historic building, which also served as an early center for religious activity and played a role in the Albanian National Awakening.
