Korea Academy of Sciences names Kyungpook National University and Shin Chong‑dae publications as Outstanding Academic
The Korea Academy of Sciences (대한민국학술원) announced its 2026 Outstanding Academic Books award, selecting a total of seven titles. Six books authored by faculty and researchers of Kyungpook National University were chosen across the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. The humanities selections include “Philosophical Horizons of Conflict Discourse,” a study on Yi I and Im Seong‑ju’s Neo‑Confucianism, and “Franco’s Dictatorship and Spain’s Democratization.” In the social‑science category, works on legal linguistics and the theoretical evolution of welfare states earned recognition, while the natural‑science award went to a molecular‑physiology study of the kidney.
In addition, a monograph by Shin Chong‑dae, president of the North Korean Graduate School (북한대학원대학교), titled “Authoritarian Regimes and Korean Politics: North Korea’s Influence” was also named an Outstanding Academic Book. The award, part of an annual program that selects 288 titles across all academic fields, aims to promote high‑quality research and broaden the dissemination of scholarly work in South Korea.
